Meet Our Professional Staff

HVAA Huntingdon Valley AA Soccer


HVAA trainers partner closely with our dedicated coaches, which is the key to our teams’ success on the field. Our training is designed where players receive elite instruction on a team level and on an individual level. All players receive high-level training with licensed professionals with extensive soccer training backgrounds and playing experience. HVAA dedicates itself to long-term player development. Our training staff delivers a positive approach at each practice session. Our trainers build upon each individual’s strengths and challenge a player’s weaknesses while developing a player’s confidence and love for the game. Players learn high-level technical skills, smart and quick decision-making, and superb game intelligence. Our Club Director, Brad Sorkin, has created a competitive training program at HVAA, and is joined by the Operations Director, Mike GouldLearn more about our team trainers below.

BRIDGETTE ALEXANDER

Bridgette grew up in Huntingdon Valley her whole life and has played for HVAA since age 9. A Lower Moreland grad (16’), she was named BAL All-League MVP (13’, 14’), BAL All-League First Team (12’,13,14’,15’), PSCA All-State Selection (13’, 14’), PSCA All-Region (14’), and a member of the All-American Watchlist (14’). She holds the Lower Moreland High School record for goals scored with 113. Bridgette attended the Division I institution, the University of Hartford (20’), where she was a four-year starter and graduated with a degree in Psychology and Education. She continues to play for HVAA Women’s U-23 team. Bridgette was formerly the assistant women’s coach for Rosemont College. She currently is the head coach and trainer for our 2014 HVAA Independence girls team and 2013 HVAA Freedom girls team.


CEILI' COURDUFF

Ceili' has been a part of the HVAA coaching staff for three years. After playing goalkeeper for Lower Moreland High School '20 team, she played for two years at Holy Family University. She also played basketball at Lower Moreland High School and is now the program's Junior Varsity Assistant and Varsity Assistant Coach. She received 1st Team in soccer and basketball at Lower Moreland High School. She was also named MVP of the Bicentennial League during her Junior and Senior years. Ceili' played for the HVAA Freedom 1999. She is involved with our HVAA in-house program and coaches in the in-house soccer and basketball programs. She is currently HVAA's Travel Soccer's head coach for the 2015 HVAA United Girl's Travel Team and Assistant Coach for HVAA 2014 Rage Boys Travel Team. 


ERICA FLECK

Raised in Huntingdon Valley, Erica Fleck grew up playing soccer, softball, and basketball for HVAA. Although she excelled in all 3 sports, soccer became her passion. Her club team, HVAA Pride, won numerous league and state titles through the years, including a 2015 run to the USYS President's Cup National Championship in Kansas. Erica was the Golden Boot winner commemorating the leading goal scorer for that tournament. In high school, Erica stood out as a multi-sport athlete, earning 12 varsity letters for Lower Moreland.  She was named captain by her teammates in all 3 sports and earned several post-season All-League honors. The soccer team won 3 consecutive BAL Titles during her time at Lower Moreland. As a senior, Erica was awarded the Tom Davenport Scholarship from HVAA for athletic excellence. Erica elected to attend Penn State University instead of pursuing a collegiate soccer career. However, she continues to play at a competitive level as one of the cornerstones of HVAA's women's team, which competes in the USL Major Division.  (2021 Champions).


MIKE GOULD

Mike has been a part of the HVAA coaching staff after a successful playing career at Lower Moreland High School (’16) and Cabrini University (’20). Mike was an all-league Goalkeeper with the Lower Moreland High School soccer team and participated in basketball for 4 years. Mike was a standout goalkeeper at Cabrini University. He received 2nd Team All-Conference his sophomore year, numerous conference player of the week, and regional player of the week awards. Mike played club soccer for HVAA 97. He has been involved with HVAA coaching since high school beginning with the in-house program. Mike also spent the last two years as the head coach of Lower Moreland High School's Varsity girls' team. He is the head coach of HVAA's 2015 Boys, 2012 Boys, 2010 Boys, and 2007 Girls. He also is our HVAA Soccer Camp Director and runs youth goalkeeping sessions for the club. He serves as HVAA Travel Soccer's Director of Operations and is also the goalkeeper coach for Temple University. Mike holds the USYS Grassroots Coaching D License. The EDP League recently selected him as an EDP 30 Under 30 List of Promising Coaches for 2023. Click here to view the announcement.


MARIA HAGAN

Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, Maria has been a part of HVAA since 2012. She was a part of the travel program playing for HVAA Diamonds and currently plays for the club’s Women’s Team HVAA Pride. Maria was a St. Hubert grad (‘17), where she was a 2-year captain and an All-Catholic recipient. Maria moved on to play at Cabrini University, where she was a 4-year team captain and starter. She was All CSAC Honorable Mention (2017) and First Team All-Conference (2018, 2019, 2021). Maria graduated from Cabrini in 2021 with a degree in education. Maria is the assistant coach for our 2014 HVAA Freedom girls team and our 2013 HVAA Independence girls team. 


ALEX LEAN

Coach Alex has been with HVAA since 2019. He is the head coach for 3 of our club teams, HVAA Pride 2012 Girls, HVAA 2011 Liberty girls, HVAA Fire 2011 girls, and a team trainer for an additional team. Alex also assists with our spring break and summer soccer camps. Growing up in Newtown, PA, Alex played club ball for Patriot FC and YMS. He also represented Philadelphia in the JCC Maccabi games, earning a Gold Medal. During his high school years, Alex also played for Council Rock North High School, earning All-League honors. Alex continued to compete at the collegiate level and continued his journey at West Chester University, where he made an immediate impact. He was named PSAC Freshman of the Year and selected as a 2nd Team All-Conference player. Alex is currently a Lower Moreland Middle School teacher, where he recently completed his 3rd season as the 7th and 8th grade soccer coach. In 2022, Alex's middle school soccer team went undefeated, winning 1st place in the MCAA league.


YASMINE MACHLOF

Yasmine has been affiliated with HVAA's soccer program since 2005! "Yas" started as a player in our Micro Soccer program and eventually became a standout travel soccer player for the HVAA Freedom elite girls' team.  Her athletic prowess blossomed at Lower Moreland High School, where she excelled as an athlete in both soccer and lacrosse while earning multiple leagues and captain honors. After high school, Yas committed to Holy Family University where she plays both soccer and lacrosse while studying biology and chemistry. She is a four-year starter in both sports, and Yas has been on the DII Academic Honor Roll several times. She will graduate in 2022. In addition to her fine work as a student-athlete, Yas' brings that same passion and energy to our youth soccer games in our community. She has been a licensed USSF referee official since 2016 and has been coaching and training soccer teams for several years. Recently, Yas has been named the head coach of our 2014 HVAA Rage boys team.


MIKE RIGNEY

Mike was born and raised in Bensalem, PA. Growing up, he played both club soccer and club ice hockey. Mike recently joined the HVAA staff after coaching club soccer for the past 12 years at the Hulmeville Soccer Club. Mike has been a part of the EPYSA Olympic Development Program (ODP) staff for five years, coaching various boys and girls age groups. Mike recently took over the Conwell-Egan High School boys' soccer program in 2021. He led the team to its first district 12 championship (2022) in 10 years and into the elite 8 of the PIAA state tournament. Mike holds a USSF National C license and coaches the 2006 girls' team, HVAA Force, for Huntingdon Valley.

 


DAMIAN SCHWEIZER

Damian Schweizer recently returned to HVAA, but this time to coach. Damian started his soccer career playing for various clubs throughout the Northeast Philadelphia region until he landed at HVAA in 2016, where he played for HVAA '97. At this time, Damian was a Standout at Franklin Towne Charter, being named to First Team All Public his junior and senior years. Damian would continue to play for HVAA U-23 Men's team while he went on to Play at Manor College and Shenandoah University. Currently, he is in his second season in the MASL3, playing with the Philadelphia Spartans. Damian has joined the club to be the head coach of the 2011 HVAA Hornets Boys team and the assistant to his father (Scott Schweizer) for the 2008 HVAA Sting Boys team. Damian also coaches at the high school level for Roman Catholic's freshman boys' soccer team. 


SCOTT SCHWEIZER

"Scottie" grew up in Northeast Philadelphia, where he played 4 years of Varsity soccer at Lincoln High School. He was First Team All Public in his Junior and Senior years. After high school, Scott coached at Lansing Youth Organization, Danubia Soccer Club, and Philadelphia Soccer Club (PSC), accumulating almost 20 years of coaching experience. He also was a player/coach for the Philadelphia Police men's soccer travel team for several years. As of 2022, Scott started coaching our 2008 and 2011 boys' teams at HVAA. He is also the head Junior Varsity boys' coach at Lower Moreland High School.


CHRIS SHANK

Chris Shank has been coaching all levels of soccer, from youth to college, for 24 years. He most recently coached two teams at the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, coached 09 and 08 ODP, as well as the New Hope Solebury boys varsity team. Chris was the Director of the girls at the Ukrainian Nationals. He took his 2000 girls' team to win state and regionals and placed second in Nationals. Chris has also coached and won the state championship for girls at CB West in 2014 and the state championship in 2010 for the boys at New Hope. He holds his USSF C license as well as his Advanced National Diploma. Chris has been recognized as Coach of the year for high school three times. He started all his years at Neshaminy high school, followed by ESU while playing club soccer for Phoenix and Danubia Majors. Chris started the women's soccer program at Bucks County Community College. He was also a trainer for Total Soccer. He graduated from Temple University with a BS in Health and Phys Ed teaching and his Master of Ed. Chris has been a Health and PE teacher in the New Hope Solebury school district for over 20 years. For the 2023-2024 season, Coach Chris will serve as the head coach for the HVAA Yellow Jackets 2009 boys team and the HVAA Lions 2010 girls team.


LENA STAROPOLI

Born in Perkasie, PA., Lena grew up playing for Deep Run Valley Soccer Club. She is a 2017 graduate of Lansdale Catholic High School, where she earned First Team All-League honors in both track and soccer.  Lena took her talents to Holy Family University, where she became a 4-year starter and team captain.  She was a CACC 2nd Team All-Conference selection in 2019, and a 4-year All-Academic player.  Lena graduated magna cum laude from HFU in 2021.  Lena coaches and trains multiple teams at HVAA, including the HVAA Venom 2012 boys teams.


CHRIS TOMARELLI

Chris has been with HVAA as a trainer for the past 6 years. He grew up in Springfield Township and played for FC Coppa and was on the ODP team. He played HS soccer for Springfield Township High School (’04) where he achieved All-League all 4 years as well as League MVP. Chris attended Bloomsburg University, where he was a 4-year starter. He received the honor of Scholar-Athlete and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (’09). While coaching, training, and playing, Chris earned a Master of Education at Cabrini University in 2012. He currently trains the 2009 Yellow Jackets, 2009 Wolfpack, 2007 Honey Badgers, 2006 Force while also coaching the U23 Men’s team. Chris holds a USYS "E” License. He currently coaches the 2009 Girls Supernovas at Springfield Soccer Club in Montgomery County. For the 2023-2024 season, Coach Chris will serve as head coach of the HVAA Stingers 2010 team, in addition to training our other HVAA teams. 


KERRIN WASSERSTROM

Kerrin is an HVAA coach and board member.  She grew up in Abington and was a four-year varsity starter for Germantown Academy ('96).  After high school, Kerrin played goal and the field in college at Bucknell University and while abroad in Scotland at Stirling University.  Her love of soccer has continued as an adult, from watching the US Women’s National Team and Premier League, playing in adult leagues and giving back to the local community through coaching.  Kerrin began coaching locally for Pottsgrove Soccer Club before returning to the area, where she coaches multiple girls' and boys' teams in our travel program at HVAA.


SCOTT WIMSEY

Scott grew up in Northeast Philadelphia. He played high school soccer at Father Judge High School, where he was a 2-time All-Catholic player. From there, he went on to Arcadia University, where he was a 3-time All-Conference player, 2-time Regional All-American player, and in was named All-American in his senior college year. He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Kixx's professional indoor soccer team, where he played for 2 seasons while winning a MISL Championship. Currently, Scott plays in MASL for the Philadelphia Spartans. Scott is the head coach and trainer for the HVAA 2009 Gunners girls' team. 


FRANK WOLFGANG

Frank has been with HVAA as an in-house coach and travel coach for over 13 years. He grew up in Philadelphia, playing hockey and practicing martial arts. Prior to his soccer coaching career, he earned his 3rd-degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo and 1st-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Later he opened a martial arts studio where he garnered 29 years of experience teaching martial arts to people ages 3-70. He began coaching in-house soccer at Fox Chase and moved to HVAA in 2007, and has since been a travel coach of multiple girls' teams ranging from U-9 to U-18. He coaches and trains the HVAA’s 2009 Lightning girls' travel team. In 2015, Frank was awarded HVAA’s Volunteer of the Year Award. Additionally, he served as the assistant coach of the girl's soccer team at Lower Moreland High School between 2014 and 2018. He holds a Youth Module, USYS “E” License, and USYS National “D” License. Since 2016, Frank has worked as an EPYSA Trainer, training young soccer players and the U11 and U12 Select Team.
